Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to educate all parishioners on the Catholic Social Justice doctrine (life, dignity and rights of each human person, and care of creation), to bring those principles into action in our community by organizing and coordinating activities based on those principles, and to involve our whole parish in Social Justice.
Our vision is to promote unity, cooperation and participation in our parish community at large by supporting, coordinating and informing everyone about all Social Justice activities. We are all called to serve others.
Upcoming Events
January
Bone marrow donor registration drive. Sat. Jan. 28 (4:30 – 7:30PM) and Sun. Jan. 29 (9AM – 2PM) AADP will be outside the church front doors to sign up potential donors before and after masses. Please consider becoming a potential donor and help save lives.
February
Parental Notification and SAFE California Initiatives. Feb. 18/19 and Feb. 25/26 before and after all masses. Parental Notification would require a girl under 17 to include her parents in the decision to have an abortion. SAFE California would replace the death penalty for life without parole. Our bishop Patrick McGrath, in accordance with the Church respect for human life teaching, backs both initiatives. Please consider signing the initiatives so they can be included in this year's November ballot.
Easter Food Drive. From first Sunday of Lent to Palm Sunday. St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus will be collecting food donations for our community's needy families. Please be generous in this very harsh economical time.
Operation Rice Bowl. From first Sunday of Lent to Palm Sunday. Sponsored by Catholic Relief Services. This year's collection will make projects possible in impoverished communities in Madagascar, Vietnam, El Salvador, Zambia and India. 25% of the funds collected in our diocese will be reverted to help our own poor communities. Last year St. Elizabeth applied and got a $500 grant for our needy families. Please remember the least fortunate during this season of Lent by fasting, praying and giving.
March
Rice Bowl Dinner. March 23, 6:30-7:30 PM. St Christopher room. Sponsored by Social Justice Ministry. Please join us as we pray, fast and mediate on the world's least fortunate by dinning a simple bowl of steamed rice. Stations of the Cross at the church will follow immediately after the dinner.
